Project Summary : Design, Construction and Completion of the Penang 2nd Crossing.

Package 2 : Super-structure Works of Approach Spans.
Overall length - 24 km
Length over water - 17 km
Main span : Length - 250 meters

Height clearance (above water) – 30 meters

Number of vehicle lanes – 2 + 1 for motorcycles (each direction)

  2. this 2nd crossing is the longest in SEA..about 23.5 km..fuyyo!! this bridge connects Batu Maung (Pulau)and Batu Kawan (tanah besar).

    u know what, this project is a join venture btwn China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Ltd (CHEC) dan UEM Builders Bhd.=)

    but until June 20, only 25% of the proj is completed.

    this project suppose to be completed in 2012 but delayed to 2013...hmmmm(^~^)

  3. i just discovered a few technical problems related to the delays of this 2nd bridge:

    " Beliau berkata faktor pertama merujuk kepada kajian lanjut tentang kesan kemalangan di laut yang perlu dilaksanakan dengan baik bagi memastikan binaannya benar-benar kukuh.

    Katanya sebab kedua pula merujuk kepada penilaian beban kesan gempa bumi yang perlu dijalankan, manakala sebab ketiga berkaitan dengan kajian mengenai kawasan kedalaman laut untuk melihat kesan struktur tanah di tempat itu."
